To comply with regulations of the State Bank as well as ensure security and safety of customer’s transactions, from January 1, 2025, Saigon Commercial Bank (SCB) will temporarily suspend online transactions on SCB Mobile Banking for customers having not updated their biometric data.
Why is it necessary to update biometric data?
According to Decision No. 2345/QĐ-NHNN dated December 18, 2023 of the State Bank on application of safety and security measures to online payment and card payment (Decision No.2345), biometric authentication is a strong and drastic step of the State Bank to enhance safety and security in online payment, creating a healthy environment to promote extensive and sustainable non-cash payments.
According to the State Bank, after the implementation of Decision No. 2345, the number of fraud cases decreased by 50% compared to the average in the first 7 months of 2024, the number of accounts related to fraud decreased by 72%. These results prove the effectiveness of Decision No. 2345 in enhancing security and preventing fraud, protecting customers during financial transactions.
To improve payment transaction safety and security, the State Bank requires customers to update biometric data to ensure that it is the account holders who use banking and financial services, thereby reducing scams and fraudulent money transfers to accounts bought/rented/borrowed by fraudsters, as well as mitigating financial losses for customers in the event of fraud or theft of confidential information.
Accordingly, to avoid interruptions when making online transactions, customers are well advised to:
1. Update your ID cards or chip-based ID cards at SCB’s branches. You can skip this step if you are certain you have already registered such information at our bank properly.
2. Immediately update your biometric data via SCB Mobile Banking application, following our instructions here.
