SCB will launch biometric authentication for online transactions from December 20, 2024

Dear valued customers,

To ensure security and safety of your transactions and comply with regulations of the State Bank, our SCB will officially launch biometric authentication (face verification) for online transactions using SCB Mobile Banking application.

1. Transactions requiring biometric authentication

From December 20, 2024:

- Transfer of over 10 million VND per transaction

- Cumulative transfer of over 20 million VND per day

- Bill payment for goods and services with a total value of over 100 million VND per day

From January 1, 2025, more transactions will be applied, including:

- Activation of SCB Mobile Banking for the first time

- Device change to use SCB Mobile Banking (not the device on which the last transaction was made).

- First transaction on Mobile Banking (this will be applied in case the customer has not made a transaction with biometric authentication before January 1, 2025)

2. Requirements for biometric authentication on SCB Mobile Banking

Customers are required to:

- Prepare valid ID cards or chip-based ID cards matching with the information of identification documents registered with SCB

- Update SCB Mobile Banking application to the latest version

- Have an NFC-enabled mobile device

Notes:

- Customers are required to install/update the SCB MB application to the latest version, supported with iOS 13.2/ Android 6.0 or higher.

- NFC-enabled mobile devices:

• For iOS: iPhone 7 series, iPhone SE 2020, etc. or their next generations and updated versions from time to time (if any)
• For Android: Devices with the NFC feature

3. Instructions for registering or updating biometric data:

- Step 1: Log into the SCB Mobile Banking application and select "Set up biometric authentication"

- Step 2: Take a photo of your ID card’s front side and scan the QR code on the ID card

- Step 3: Scan information on the chip of your ID card

- Step 4: Take a photo of your ID card’s back side

- Step 5: Take a photo of your face

- Step 6: Confirm the information successfully collected and authenticated

4. Instructions for biometric transaction authentication on SCB Mobile Banking

- Step 1: Make a transaction with appropriate details (fund amount, order detail or recipient’s information, etc.)

- Step 2: SCB Mobile Banking will turn on the phone camera to verify your face.

- Step 3: Receive and enter the OTP via SMS OTP/Soft OTP/Token OTP authentication methods to complete the transaction.

Please:

- Only update your biometric data via SCB Mobile Banking application.

- DO NOT update biometric data via any other websites or applications to avoid fraud risks.

- Note that SCB never requires customers to provide OTP, password, card number, security code, etc. over their phones or via links.
